Yard Operative

Ashcourt Group is looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join our team. The successful candidate will support the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the yard, helping to ensure materials, vehicles and equipment are managed effectively and the site is maintained to a high standard.

The role will involve working as part of a busy operational team and will suit someone who is comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the yard and site.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
  • Assist with the loading, unloading and movement of materials where required.
  • Direct vehicles and help manage traffic movements safely around the yard.
  • Check incoming and outgoing materials and report any issues or discrepancies.
  • Carry out general housekeeping duties, including keeping access routes, storage areas and working areas clear.
  • Assist drivers, customers and contractors visiting the site where required.
  • Carry out basic inspections of equipment and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure materials are stored safely and in the correct locations.
  • Support stock checks and general yard organisation.
  • Follow all site health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Wear the appropriate PPE and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
  • Work closely with weighbridge, transport, quarry and operational teams to maintain an efficient flow of materials and vehicles.
  • Assist with other general site duties as required by management.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience working within a yard, quarry, waste, construction, aggregates or similar environment would be advantageous.
  • Good awareness of workplace health and safety.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to undertake a range of duties.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a busy operational environment.
  • A flexible approach to working hours and duties.

Relevant plant or machinery tickets would be advantageous but are not essential, depending on the requirements of the site.
